飛盤,實際上是美國康涅迪克州的餡餅商和一個南加州的飛碟愛好者共同的杰作。 1870年,William Frisbie的蘋果餡餅在康涅狄克州相當知名,尤其他們總將餡餅放在一個標有家族名字的錫盤上。附近耶魯大學的學生們很喜歡吃William Frisbie的餡餅,而漸漸的,他們發(fā)現(xiàn)互相投擲空餡餅盤也同樣的有趣。他們在訂購餡餅的同時找到了兩種樂趣:吃和玩。

與此同時,南加州的Walter Frederick是個狂熱的飛碟迷。他致力于設計一種飛碟形玩具。Wham-o 公司買下了Frederick的構思并且于1957年推出了這一“飛碟”玩具。在一個偶然的機會里,公司總裁Richard Knerr去東部的途中,發(fā)現(xiàn)當?shù)氐膶W生互相投擲Frisbie餡餅盤子取樂。他從中獲得了靈感,于是,飛盤,這個道地的美國游戲,就這么誕生了。
